About the position

The Drafter Designer position within the Department of Environmental Protection focuses on contributing to various technical projects in civil, mining, and environmental engineering. The role involves developing plans and managing construction contracts related to abandoned mine reclamation, which includes activities such as regrading, sealing mine openings, and restoring wetlands affected by mining activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans, details, and sections for civil and mining projects.
  • Manage construction contracts and reports.
  • Oversee rights-of-way acquisitions of various complexities and scopes.
  • Work on projects related to abandoned mines, including regrading former surface mine areas and sealing mine openings.
  • Address underground mine fires and install drainage control structures.
  • Demolish derelict mine buildings and stabilize areas prone to subsidence.
  • Treat mine drainage and restore wetlands affected by acid mine drainage.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Drafter.
  • Two years of experience as an Environmental Engineering Technician, including one year of drafting work and six months of CADD experience.
  • Two years of drafting experience with an Associate's Degree in engineering technology or Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training, including six months of CADD experience.

  • Opportunity for telework up to 3 days a week.
  • Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch.
