About the position

The Drafter Designer position within the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation offers a unique opportunity to contribute to environmental protection efforts through civil and mining engineering projects. This role involves developing technical plans and managing various construction contracts related to abandoned mines, while also providing a chance for personal and professional growth in public service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans, details, and sections for civil and mining projects.
  • Manage construction contracts, reports, and rights-of-way acquisitions.
  • Work on projects related to regrading former surface mine areas and sealing mine openings.
  • Address underground mine fires and install drainage control structures.
  • Demolish derelict mine buildings and stabilize areas prone to subsidence.
  • Treat mine drainage and restore wetlands affected by acid mine drainage.
  • Address the replacement or treatment of individual water supplies impacted by historical coal mining activities.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Drafter or Environmental Engineering Technician.
  • Experience in engineering, architectural, or survey drafting work, including six months of CADD experience or training.
  • An Associate's Degree in engineering technology or Computer Aided Drafting and Design is preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions and meet PA residency requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with mine reclamation processes and regulations.
