About the position

The Drafter I position at Open Dental Software involves a critical role in organizing, maintaining, and integrating all CAD drawings for the entire campus. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a vast array of CAD files, ensuring that all drawings are up-to-date and accurately reflect the current state of the campus infrastructure. This position requires a strong proficiency in AutoCAD, which can be gained through formal education or relevant job experience. The candidate must exhibit a professional appearance and demeanor, as they will interface with various stakeholders including architects, civil engineers, and surveyors. In this role, the Drafter will be tasked with mapping all sprinkler mainlines based on existing landscape drawings and physical verification. They will also be responsible for drawing fire escape plans, working closely with the IT department to maintain drawings of the physical wiring throughout the campus, and incorporating various utilities into the CAD drawings. The Drafter will supervise contractors to prevent accidental damage to these lines and will create layouts for new cubicle configurations and sitemaps for city requirements. Additionally, the Drafter will prepare preliminary drawings for new projects to be sent to architects and civil engineers, manage redlines, and facilitate communication between engineers and contractors regarding layout adjustments. The role also includes transitioning existing drawings from Corel to AutoCAD and submitting permit drawings to the city. A highly organized computer file system for all drawings must be maintained, and the Drafter will independently manage their time to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with architects, civil engineers, surveyors, etc.
  • Organize and integrate many hundreds of existing separate CAD files for our 50-acre campus.
  • Maintain drawings as changes are made and continually incorporate new drawings.
  • Map all sprinkler mainlines, based on existing landscape drawings and physical verification.
  • Draw fire escape plans for the required postings.
  • Work with our IT department to establish and maintain the drawings of the physical wiring throughout the campus.
  • Incorporate various utilities into our drawings, including fiber, cable, electrical, phone, gas, etc.
  • Supervise contractors to prevent accidental penetration of those lines.
  • Draw layouts for new cubicle configurations.
  • Draw sitemaps for various city requirements.
  • Make preliminary drawings for new projects to send to architects and civil engineers.
  • Prepare redlines to send to architects and engineers.
  • Fill the gap between the engineers and contractors for issues like adjusting the layout of trusses and communication with fabricators.
  • Transition many existing drawings from Corel over to AutoCAD.
  • Submit permit drawings to the city.
  • Assist the facilities department with various jobs.
  • Maintain a highly organized computer file system for all drawings.
  • Independently manage time.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in AutoCAD, either from formal coursework or from job experience.
