The Designer provides drafting and design support for engineering departments by assuming drafting responsibility for assigned projects, recognizing emerging authority at the site, and performing a full range of design work using advanced techniques and methodologies requiring special qualifications, attainments, certifications, and/or advanced training. The Designer shall be teamed up with a Senior Electrical Engineer and will primarily focus on Electrical and Controls Designs, including modeling of purchased items, electrical aspects of wiring of an Air Handling Unit (AHU), and wiring schematics. In this role, you will prepare drawings of pieces, parts, and assemblies involving selection of scales, dimensioning, detailed views, sectional views, and orthographic projections from sketches, layouts, or verbal instructions. You will utilize Excel for macro language programs to improve CAD (Inventor) productivity by reducing or eliminating interactive commands to create repetitious geometry or drawings. Additionally, you will prepare bills of material and prelists using a computerized bill of material system, and independently perform some electrical system design to support mechanical projects. Proficiency in using 2D CAD software for drawing, drafting, and design tasks is essential, as well as the ability to develop complex top-down designs and large assembly layouts using 3D Solids/Parametric software. You will also be responsible for checking the work of others that is similar in type and complexity to that which you personally perform, training less experienced drafters in areas of technical and practice knowledge, and maintaining established schedules and accuracy. Knowledge and use of codes or standards for design applications and conformance as related to the job, as well as knowledge of manufacturing processes such as tooling limitations as defined by the drafting manual, and HVAC principles as related to the job are also required. Finally, you will review project specifications and requirements to assure conformance of design and fabrication of the product.
