About the position

This position supports avionics research, development, prototype, production, and maintenance activities at the Patuxent Engineering Facility (PEF). This position is a mechanical/electrical CAD operator/drafter who will work closely with design engineers preparing drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs. A high degree of precision and attention to detail is required. Duties will include converting three-dimensional CAD models to two-dimensional drawings. Models will be mechanical components (brackets, chassis, etc.) as well as circuit card assemblies and cable harnesses. Independent judgement is required to select and interpret drawing data based on the model and anticipating the drawings include sufficient data for manufacture, assembly, and installation of the end item. Responsibilities include ensuring drawings conform with drawing practices and standards. Duties also include updating drawings as needed to incorporate Engineering Change Orders and Notices (ECOs and ECNs). Although working primarily as a drafter, may occasionally interpret general designs prepared by others to complete minor details. May provide advice and guidance to entry-level drafters or serve as coordinator and planner for large and complex drafting projects.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years drafting experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14 drafting standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, CREO ProE, or Inventor.
  • Experience developing drawings for aircraft-related applications.
  • Experience working with design engineers, mechanical technicians, and electrical technicians.
  • Familiar with electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Inventor 3D modeling software and Vault configuration management software.
  • Experience with OrCAD.
  • Experience with configuration management processes and procedures.
  • Experience converting Circuit Card Assembly models in OrCAD to fabrication drawings in AutoCAD.
