About the position

WSP is currently seeking a Draftsperson for our US Mine Waste Civil Design and Drafting Team in Reno, NV. This position involves providing technical design and CADD support on various projects, focusing on producing designs and specifications for planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services. The Draftsperson will work under direct supervision, assisting in the development of skills with CADD design on basic projects. The role requires generating accurate and concise design phase deliverables, ensuring that all responsibilities are met with a level of quality that adheres to industry standards for design, accuracy, and functionality. The Draftsperson will modify and develop drawing packages, including plans, profiles, sections, and details primarily in civil design. This includes complex earthworks, mining designs (such as tailings and heap leach pads), stormwater and surface-water controls, groundwater science, landfill design and remediation, and civil infrastructure in the power sector and water treatment facilities. Quality control of drafting and design plans will be essential, ensuring compliance with company CADD standards throughout the project scope. Additionally, the Draftsperson will assist in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources, including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, and technical drawings. Using 3D CADD software, the Draftsperson will prepare drawings that require a high degree of precision and provide entry-level technical design assistance. Responsibilities also include verifying calculations, interpreting contract plans, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute project work. The role emphasizes ethical decision-making and adherence to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and develop drawing packages including plans, profiles, sections, and details primarily in civil design.
  • Provide quality control of drafting and design plans related to company CADD standards.
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources to support drafting and design activities.
  • Use 3D CADD software to assist with basic design details and prepare precise drawings.
  • Provide entry-level technical design assistance ensuring proper illustration, fit form, and function.
  • Assist with verifying calculations, design, change orders, and interpretation of contract plans.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements regarding dimensions, materials, and procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 0-2 years' experience in Civil drafting support.
  • Practiced skills utilizing Autodesk AutoCAD 2023 and Civil 3D 2023 or newer.
  • General awareness of drafting and design support principles and practices.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.

Nice-to-haves
