About the position

The Over the Road Driver (DOT - CDL) position at Fastenal involves delivering products to and from distribution centers and customer locations. The role requires operating a safe and well-maintained truck, ensuring timely and efficient deliveries while adhering to safety regulations and company policies. The driver will represent the Fastenal fleet and is expected to maintain a clean work environment and participate in health and safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Providing excellent service to branches and customers by delivering products promptly and efficiently.
  • Utilizing a handheld scanner for tracking deliveries.
  • Unloading products from trucks using hand, pallet jack, or forklift.
  • Interacting with shipping and receiving departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment within the equipment used.
  • Inspecting and reporting defects or issues in equipment.
  • Complying with DOT and Fastenal safety regulations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the work area.
  • Complying with health, safety, and sustainability rules and expectations.
  • Participating in activities and programs that help achieve health, safety, and sustainability objectives.
  • Learning, passing, and practicing various environmental health and safety trainings.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess or are currently in progress of obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Possess a current Health Card or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Possess a current Haz Mat endorsement or have the ability to obtain one (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam ONLY).
  • Meet Fastenal driving record requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of DOT regulations regarding CDL drivers.
  • Maintain DOT regulated Drivers Hours-of-Service.
  • Willingness to travel and drive interstate routes across state lines.
  • Demonstrate core values of ambition, innovation, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and maneuver up to 150 lbs.
  • Successfully complete required DOT drug and alcohol screens, road test, employment verification, and background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior driving work experience.
  • Prior experience operating a forklift.
