About the position

The Driver Manager at Rush Transportation & Logistics is responsible for overseeing terminal operations, managing drivers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role involves hiring, training, and mentoring drivers while also managing fleet and equipment oversight to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead terminal drivers, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.
  • Enforce safety rules, address violations immediately, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Recruit, retain, and train drivers, partnering with HR to interview and onboard candidates.
  • Manage driver schedules, PTO, leave requests, and payroll processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship for drivers on tools, systems, and policies.
  • Address performance issues, conduct reviews, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Facilitate regular driver meetings to promote communication and engagement.
  • Oversee the condition, location, and usage of terminal vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop relationships with vendors for truck, trailer, and maintenance needs.
  • Manage software installation and updates required for driver operations.
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations, including hours of service, licensing, and drug testing.
  • Handle driver advances, problem resolution, and pricing/pay inquiries.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate reporting and statistics as needed.
  • Conduct daily yard checks and coordinate driver equipment needs with Fleet Supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2-5 years of driver or fleet management experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.
  • CDL A preferred but not required.
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills to manage and motivate teams.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in computer applications and transportation-related systems.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing safety and quality.
