About the position

The Driver Manager at Urs Midwest Inc. is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a group of drivers and independent contractors (ICs) within a designated operational region. This position focuses on managing driver performance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fostering positive employee relationships. The Driver Manager conducts performance reviews, implements corrective action plans, and collaborates with various departments to address any issues affecting driver performance and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Manage driver performance by setting expectations and conducting regular reviews.
  • Implement corrective action processes for drivers not meeting performance goals.
  • Collaborate with the Area Manager, HR, and Safety department on termination or lease cancellation issues.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance for drivers, including FMCSA regulations.
  • Resolve problems with assigned drivers and ensure driver retention.
  • Train and mentor drivers on the proper use of tools and systems.
  • Track and manage drivers' schedules, including time off and holiday pay compliance.
  • Resolve driver payroll discrepancies and authorize additional pay when appropriate.
  • Manage driver utilization to achieve targeted levels and improve productivity with load planners.
  • Enforce compliance with company policies and procedures, including Core Values.
  • Contribute to a high-performance culture that values teamwork and employee contributions.
  • Support load planning in re-planning and recovery of loads.
  • Monitor deliveries and pickups for service failures and proactively alert relevant departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Passion for workforce development.
  • Experience in the trucking sector is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, interpersonal relationships, resources, and information effectively.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and MS Office Suite.
