About the position

The Driver/Operator - CDL A Track is responsible for the safe transportation of equipment and materials to and from job sites, as well as the operation of various heavy equipment. This role involves loading, unloading, and assisting in maintenance and repair activities related to railroad operations. The position emphasizes safety, efficiency, and professionalism in all tasks to protect both employees and company assets.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment according to company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Drive tractor-trailer to/from job sites, inspecting loads and machinery being transported.
  • Verify transportation permits for overweight and oversize loads/equipment.
  • Participate in daily work plan discussions to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Move, stage, load/unload materials/equipment for rerailing, load adjust/transfer, and track maintenance/repair/new builds.
  • Assist in assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other equipment.
  • Operate equipment in accordance with standard operational policies and safety regulations.
  • Assist with rigging and connection of chains, cables, and winches during derailments.
  • Monitor equipment/vehicles to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
  • Perform and document minor service on equipment/vehicles, referring complex issues to the Shop Manager/Foreman.
  • Participate in disassembly/loading of cranes and other equipment at the end of job assignments.
  • Restock vehicles/equipment with necessary parts and supplies upon return to home base.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, vehicle, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Three years of progressive experience operating heavy motorized equipment including backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, front-end loader, grapple truck, rail-bound equipment, tractor, and skid-steer loaders.
  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required, including E-Rail Safe and other training/safety programs.
  • Must be available 24/7 to respond to emergency calls for service, including weekends and holidays.
