About the position
The Driver's Aide for Connecticut Transportation Solutions plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and pleasant transportation of children to various destinations, including schools, vocational training, medical appointments, and residential facilities. This part-time position focuses on assisting children during their transport, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the journey.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from school, field trips, and after school programs.
- Assists children in boarding the van safely, including helping teachers prepare for departure by putting on coats and ensuring each child has their belongings.
- Ensures the driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle.
- Helps children safely disembark from the bus and into the custody of authorized individuals.
- Retrieves any fallen objects during the bus ride.
- Follows and ensures mandated child restraint device procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained.
Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Ability to pass a background check and Department of Children and Families (DCF) credentialing.
- Successful experience in student transportation preferred.
- Knowledge of the challenges and care involved in cognitive disorders, mental illness, and autism.
- Must be physically able to step up and down steps, safely secure clients for transport, lift up to 50 lbs, and transport wheelchair patients on paved and unpaved surfaces.
