About the position

The Driver's Aide position at Connecticut Transportation Solutions involves ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of children and individuals during transportation. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as aides work closely with drivers, management, parents, and school staff to provide a safe and supportive environment for students, particularly those with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Get to know your student and engage them in conversation or appropriate activities during transport.
• Be seated in close proximity to the student to monitor and assist them at all times.
• Maintain professional behavior and constant communication with students, drivers, managers, school staff, and parents.
• Follow and ensure mandated child restraint device procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained.
• Advise students of appropriate behavior to reinforce established guidelines and maintain passenger safety.
• Exhibit empathy and understanding of special needs students.
• Attend all mandatory training sessions as directed by supervisors.
• Communicate road conditions, incidents, accidents, and/or emergency situations.
• Operate wheelchair lift, harness, and other special equipment necessary for the health and safety of students.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Successful experience working with students or individuals with special needs preferred
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from parents, school staff, and managers
• Must be physically able to step up and down steps, safely secure clients for transport (car seats, booster seats, seat belts, wheelchair, and harnesses)
• Maintain a positive and professional attitude under stressful situations
