About The Position

The Drop and Hook Driver position at Gandy's involves operating various types of commercial vehicles, including straight trucks and tractor-trailers, to deliver products safely and efficiently. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer within the last 5 years preferred.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements.
  • Valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operator's permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application.
  • Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements.
  • Skill in proficient computer usage.
  • Skill with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to contribute to positive performance behaviors through personal example.
  • Able to be proactive in seeking solutions and taking appropriate steps to solve problems.
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork.
  • Able to be punctual, follow directions, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to present options and ideas to current processes or procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a straight truck, tractor-trailer, or double trailer.
  • Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner according to the delivery route schedule.
  • Demonstrate high standards of customer service.
  • Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others.
  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Deliver products according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents, or breakdowns.
  • Load and unload product as required at designated stops.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers.
  • Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day.
  • Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines.
  • Perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure.
  • Attend all driver workshops and training sessions.
  • Use company supported applications or systems properly.
  • Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times.
