About the position
The Drop Cable Trencher / Construction Laborer / Equipment Operator position involves working outdoors to build a fiber optic network in Western Racine County and surrounding areas. The role includes operating trenching machines, installing conduits, and performing various physical tasks to ensure the successful installation of fiber services. This position offers opportunities for growth in pay and responsibilities as the employee develops within the company.
Responsibilities
- Operate walk behind trenching machine to direct bury wire for fiber service or a pole-mounted fixed wireless antenna
- Install conduit in the ground using Horizontal Direction Drill or Vibratory Plow
- Put fiber-optic cable in the conduit through fiber blowing
- Dig holes to install vaults using mini excavator
- Restore any damaged turf surfaces, spread dirt and plant grass seed
- Pothole utilities involving hand digging and vacuum excavation
- Provide basic maintenance to equipment including greasing, fueling, and checking fluids
- Use basic tools such as cordless drills, wrenches, and cable crimpers
- Load trailers and secure equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience with power tools
- Ability to pass a drug and background check
