About the position

The Drop Cable Trencher / Construction Laborer / Equipment Operator position involves working outdoors to build a fiber optic network in Western Racine County and surrounding areas. The role includes operating heavy equipment, installing fiber optic cables, and performing various construction tasks to provide essential services to rural areas lacking cable and DSL options.

Responsibilities

  • Operate walk behind trenching machine to direct bury wire for fiber service or a pole-mounted fixed wireless antenna.
  • Install conduit in the ground using Horizontal Direction Drill or Vibratory Plow.
  • Put fiber-optic cable in the conduit through fiber blowing.
  • Dig holes to install vaults using mini excavator.
  • Restore any damaged turf surfaces, spread dirt, and plant grass seed.
  • Pothole utilities, involving hand digging and vacuum excavation.
  • Provide basic maintenance to equipment, including greasing, fueling, and checking fluids.
  • Use basic tools like cordless drills, wrenches, and cable crimpers.
  • Load trailers and secure equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience with driving power tools and hand tools.
