About the position

The Drug and Alcohol Counselor position at Management & Training Corporation (MTC) involves providing essential counseling services to offenders at the Travis County State Jail in Austin, Texas. The role focuses on helping individuals with chemical dependency issues through instruction, evaluation, and program coordination, ultimately aiming to facilitate their recovery and reintegration into society.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to offenders for the DWI program.
  • Interview, screen, and evaluate offenders for potential program participation.
  • Maintain offender records and other records regarding services provided, including workload statistics; compile data and submit reports and related documentation as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and instructional ability.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Administer and evaluate pre and post-test instruments.
  • Assist in planning chemical dependency counseling programs and coordinate the delivery of counseling services to offenders with histories of chemical use, abuse, or addiction.
  • Provide comprehensive evaluations using valid measurement tools to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk of offenders.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two years of full-time, wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment or substance abuse education.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), or current valid certification as Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, or current qualifying credential to conduct counseling in a treatment environment.
  • Successful completion of the Texas DWI Education In-Service Training Program approved by DSHS and qualification to be a Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) administrator.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record.
