About the position

The Drug/GM Department Leader is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while ensuring a safe and clean environment. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and supervising all functions within the Drug/GM department. The leader will support daily operations and promote a customer-first strategy, embodying the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold throughout the store.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates; promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume during hours of operation.
  • Develop associates on performance and participate in the performance appraisal process; establish performance goals for the department.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results; monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products; create and execute sales promotions.
  • Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions.
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any items in need of repair.
  • Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity to store management.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
  • Effective communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Any management/Drug-GM/retail experience
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
