About the position
The Drug/GM Department Leader is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while ensuring a safe and clean environment. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and supervising all functions within the Drug/GM department. The leader will support daily operations and promote a customer-first strategy, embodying the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Responsibilities
- Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold throughout the store.
- Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates; promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.
- Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume during hours of operation.
- Develop associates on performance and participate in the performance appraisal process; establish performance goals for the department.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
- Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results; monitor and control expenses for the department.
- Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products; create and execute sales promotions.
- Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions.
- Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
- Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
- Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
- Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any items in need of repair.
- Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity to store management.
Requirements
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
- Effective communication skills
Nice-to-haves
- High School Diploma or GED
- Any management/Drug-GM/retail experience
- Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
