The Drug-General Merchandise Assistant Department Leader at Kroger is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while overseeing the Drug/GM department's daily operations. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, maintaining quality assurance standards, and fostering a safe and clean environment that encourages customer loyalty. The position emphasizes teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to company values, aiming to empower associates and enhance customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions and activities for the Drug/GM department.
  • Support day-to-day operations of Drug/GM.
  • Encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume.
  • Develop associates on performance and participate in performance appraisals.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Offer product samples to customers.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Assist in preparing the store/department budget and profit/loss reviews.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes.
  • Train department associates on inventory and stocking processes.
  • Practice preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and safety risks.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Any management/Drug-GM/retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
