About the position

The Drug General Merchandise/Department Leader at Fry's Food Stores is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while ensuring a safe and clean environment. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and supervising all functions within the Drug GM department. The leader is expected to embody the company's core values and contribute to a positive team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct, support, and supervise all functions of the Drug GM department.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Establish performance goals and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
  • Develop scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.
  • Train and develop associates and participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Create an environment that allows customers to feel welcome and appreciated.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of Drug GM specials.
  • Display a positive attitude and develop a department business plan.
  • Understand the store's layout and locate products.
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Assist in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
  • Train associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Reinforce safety programs and comply with safety procedures.
  • Practice preventive maintenance and inspect equipment.

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Drug GM experience.
  • Retail experience.
  • Second language: speaking, reading and/or writing.
