About the position

The Long-term Care Surveyor position at DSHS involves conducting inspections and evaluations of Adult Family Homes to ensure compliance with state regulations and to advocate for the well-being of residents. This role is crucial in supporting the Aging and Long-term Support Administration's mission to provide appropriate care for vulnerable populations. The position requires a combination of fieldwork, office work, and remote work, with a focus on critical thinking and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to Adult Family Homes to conduct on-site state licensure inspections, which may require consecutive days of visits until completion.
  • Manage workload and timelines, including preparation and completion of inspections, and create accurate and timely finding reports.
  • Observe resident services and care within the physical environment.
  • Conduct interviews with residents, family members, and community representatives to gather information on satisfaction with care and services.
  • Obtain information regarding nursing care and services from medical records and facility staff.
  • Communicate findings with providers throughout the inspection process.
  • Complete timely computer input into required state data systems, including statements of deficiencies and investigation summary reports.
  • Participate in required education, training, and administrative hearings.
  • Collaborate with peers regarding inspection findings and decision-making related to facility practices, including abuse and neglect issues.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, speech pathology, occupational or physical therapy, psychology, special education, nutrition, sociology, or a related field with 2 years of professional experience in relevant service programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the above fields with 4 years of professional experience in relevant service programs.
  • Solid computer skills for charting and documenting findings, with familiarity in Teams and Outlook as a bonus.
  • Basic use of various databases for data entry and report writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
