About the position

The Direct Support Professional role at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota involves providing essential support and guidance to individuals with disabilities. The role includes addressing emergencies, providing transportation, and maintaining documentation, all within a supportive and positive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, encouragement, support, comfort, security, and safety to individuals receiving services.
• Advocate for individuals in all aspects of life, including medical and community engagement.
• Support individuals in performing essential living skills more independently.
• Provide transportation to appointments and events as desired by individuals.
• Maintain documentation and perform record keeping as required.
• Participate in periodic meetings and trainings according to regulations.
• Address any situations or emergencies that may arise during the overnight shift.

Requirements

• Successfully meet the requirements of a background check.
• Experience and/or training of at least one year with individuals with disabilities is desired.
• Basic computer skills and basic math skills are required.
• Ability to read, write, and solve problems effectively.
• Exhibit patience, self-control, and flexibility in interactions.
• Ability to suggest and implement strategies to enhance service delivery.
• Successful completion of medication administration training (may be obtained after hire).
• CPR/First Aid certification (may be obtained after hire).
• Mental Health certification is desired (may be obtained after hire).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Mental Health certification.
