About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at CARES involves providing essential support and resources to children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health conditions, particularly from underserved multilingual communities. The position focuses on enhancing daily living skills and facilitating community integration for clients, primarily in their homes or community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Work with children and their families to provide resources and support.
  • Strengthen daily living skills for individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges.
  • Teach clients how to accomplish daily living tasks and improve socialization skills.
  • Assist individuals in acclimating to community activities such as traveling and interacting with community helpers.
  • Communicate effectively with families and supervisors regarding client progress and concerns.
  • Complete and submit documentation of activities engaged with clients in a timely manner.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions.

Requirements

  • Prefer prior experience providing direct services to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • Pursuing a degree in education, social work, nursing, or psychology is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given parameters.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US.
  • High school diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
