About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at CARES involves providing essential support and resources to children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health conditions, particularly from underserved multilingual communities. The position focuses on enhancing daily living skills and facilitating community integration for clients, primarily in Staten Island, with a specific emphasis on Mandarin-speaking individuals.

Responsibilities

• Work with children and their families to provide resources and support.
• Strengthen daily living skills for individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges.
• Teach clients how to accomplish daily living tasks and improve socialization skills.
• Assist individuals in acclimating to community activities such as traveling and interacting with store staff.
• Communicate effectively with families and supervisors regarding client progress and concerns.
• Complete and submit documentation of activities engaged with clients in a timely manner.
• Participate in mandatory training sessions.

Requirements

• Prefer prior experience providing direct services to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
• Pursuing a degree in education, social work, nursing, or psychology is preferred.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given parameters.
• Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US.
• High school diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
