About the position

MARC, Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Direct Support Professional to provide one-to-one support in their day program, Shannon's Place. The role focuses on assisting adults with developmental disabilities in personal growth and achieving their goals. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as good judgment, to effectively support individuals in their daily activities.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Day Service services offering daily community activities and center-based options.
  • Participate in activities according to individual preferences.
  • Prepare necessary reports and complete documentation as required by the agency and the State Department of Developmental Services.
  • Ensure accurate emergency fact sheet information and case record files for participants.
  • Attend staff meetings, scheduled in-services, and specified individual meetings.
  • Transport participants to and from the Day Service in agency vehicle or personal car.
  • Assist in routine maintenance of the Day Service van.
  • Administer proper supports to individuals in need of daily toileting routines and ADL skills.
  • Assist in agency Service Evaluation System.
  • Write for the agency monthly newsletter.
  • Creatively plan and implement appropriate activities for all participants.
  • Administer medications to participants in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform other duties as designated by the Day Program Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid CT Driver's License and a vehicle with current registration and insurance.
  • Experience assisting adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze situations and develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to act quickly and remain calm in a crisis.
  • Ability to relate well to others on an individual basis and in a group.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, be flexible, and work independently.
  • Ability to lift and transfer up to 75 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR, First Aid, and PMT certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of recreation services and agency policies.
  • Knowledge of management information systems.
