About the position
The DSS Support Staff position at United Veterans Beacon House is responsible for maintaining day-to-day operations within the shelter system, ensuring the safety and well-being of all program participants. This role involves conducting shelter intakes, enforcing compliance with shelter policies, documenting activities, and serving as a point of contact for monitoring the house. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
Responsibilities
- Maintain day-to-day operations on-site within the shelter system.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants.
- Conduct shelter intakes and enforce compliance with shelter policies and procedures.
- Document all activity which takes place within the shelter during the shift.
- Serve as a point of contact and monitor the house.
- Conduct morning and evening room checks.
- Activate and deactivate the shelter security system during shifts.
- Monitor client arrivals and departures, ensuring sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed.
- Oversee meal preparation and dinner hour.
- Provide crisis intervention and mediation as needed.
- Conduct monthly fire drills and safety maintenance.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Strong communication skills
- Customer service skills
- Organizational skills
- Computer literacy
- Capable of multi-tasking and being flexible within their role
- Prompt and courteous phone manner
- Knowledge of telephone, computer, and security procedures for the company.
