About the position

The Dual Immersion Kindergarten Teacher position at Otter Lake Elementary and Matoska International Elementary is designed for educators who are passionate about fostering bilingualism and biliteracy in young learners. This role involves teaching kindergarten students in both Spanish and English, utilizing a dynamic curriculum that promotes cross-cultural understanding. The ideal candidate will create an inclusive and nurturing classroom environment, supporting the holistic development of each child while collaborating with families and staff to enhance educational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Kindergarten students in both Spanish and English (80/20 model), delivering instruction in core subjects such as language arts, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that align with both district and state curriculum standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students, ensuring both language acquisition and academic growth.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and families to support the academic and social-emotional development of students.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practices.
  • Foster a love of language and culture, promoting bilingualism and biliteracy in both Spanish and English.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Current MN Teaching Certification or equivalent experience allowing for a variance or provisional license.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective teaching strategies for early learners.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for working with children and fostering a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with dual-language immersion programs or language acquisition strategies.
  • Knowledge of literacy and language development in both Spanish and English.
