About the position

The Domestic Violence Hopeline Advocate position is a remote role focused on providing compassionate advocacy support to individuals experiencing intimate partner violence. The advocate will work from a private home environment to ensure confidentiality while responding to calls and chats on the DVHopeline. The role emphasizes a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach, aiming to empower survivors and connect them with necessary resources and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed support, information, and referrals to callers on New Beginnings' 24-hour DVHopeline.
  • Staff a dedicated Help Line schedule, providing domestic violence information, crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, risk assessment, and resource coordination.
  • Explore additional service needs of callers and facilitate appropriate referrals to relevant organizations.
  • Provide information and support to friends, family, and professionals seeking to assist domestic violence survivors.
  • Support callers who have experienced sexual violence or commercial sexual exploitation and refer them to relevant agencies as needed.
  • Incorporate survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive best practices into supportive services.
  • Provide healthy relationships information to callers seeking to prevent domestic violence.
  • If bi or multi-lingual, provide support in non-English languages to callers as needed.
  • Help ensure that services embody anti-oppression principles and promote equity for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ survivors.
  • Coordinate interpreter services for Helpline callers as needed.
  • Enter complete, accurate, and appropriate service data into the agency database.
  • Respond to meet data needs identified by the Managers/Program Director or data staff.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of community resources for the benefit of survivors.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other domestic violence and service agencies in the community.
  • Provide program information and stories to the development team to support donor engagement and funding opportunities.
  • Actively contribute to a positive team environment and participate in all required meetings and trainings.
  • Assist with administrative or other tasks as requested by the Managers/Program Director.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission of New Beginnings and to the needs of domestic violence survivors.
  • A minimum of one year of experience providing survivor-centered advocacy and/or crisis line coverage, with domestic violence-specific experience preferred.
  • Willingness to learn about and promote equity and social justice within and outside of New Beginnings.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and the impact of trauma on survivors and their children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse survivors in a welcoming, supportive, culturally responsive manner.
  • English fluency is required; fluency in one or more additional languages is preferred.
  • Ability to research a wide range of community resources to meet survivors' needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend to detail and ensure follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, handle crises, and juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Ability to engage in wellness and self-care activities to manage secondary trauma.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; typing at 50 wpm a plus.
  • Must have access to transportation for in-person onboarding meeting in Seattle.
