About the position

We are seeking an experienced eDiscovery Paralegal to support the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Kentucky (USAO WDKY). This role focuses on providing comprehensive litigation support, including electronic discovery, document review, and case preparation. As an eDiscovery Paralegal, you will be responsible for researching and analyzing case law, statutes, legislative intent, and judicial precedents. You will perform litigation support tasks with a particular emphasis on tasks for Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters, utilizing automated legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis. Your responsibilities will include managing discovery and data, assisting with the drafting and issuing of subpoenas and civil investigatory demands, and contributing to pretrial preparations. You will aid in the preparation of legal materials and documents, organize documents for efficient automated storage and retrieval, and assist in the preparation of computerized pretrial and trial presentations. Additionally, you will employ tools for efficient data management and ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective methods are followed through procedures established by the USAO. Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze case law, statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, etc.
  • Perform litigation support tasks with a particular emphasis on tasks for ACE (Affirmative Civil Enforcement) matters
  • Use automated legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, West Next, Lexis, and public information databases)
  • Assist with managing discovery and data (e.g., assembling documents responsive to discovery requests, etc.)
  • Help draft and issue subpoenas and civil investigatory demands
  • Contribute to pretrial preparations (i.e., scheduling, reviewing, and organizing the assembly of evidence)
  • Aid in the preparation of legal material and documents (i.e., exhibits, discovery, voluminous records)
  • Organize documents for efficient automated storage and retrieval (e.g., scanning documents, preparing indices)
  • Assist in the preparation of computerized pretrial and trial presentations
  • Develop general office presentations using various computer hardware
  • Use litigation support programs (e.g., Sanction, Concordance, and PowerPoint)
  • Employ tools for efficient data management (e.g., CaseMap, TimeMap, Access, and Excel)
  • Use Microsoft Word and Outlook for document creation and communication
  • Review a wide variety of documents, including legal and non-legal documents, motions, briefs, and correspondence
  • Work with other office members to use NetDocs and NetDocs protocols for ACE cases
  • Conduct electronic discovery tasks (e.g., processing and exporting electronic files to various formats)
  • Modify and manipulate files for use with Commercial off the Shelf (COTS)
  • Define data file search criteria, import data into COTS products, and update databases
  • Ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective methods are followed through procedures established by the USAO
  • Perform quality assurance of all electronic file processing services
  • Ensure that incoming discovery productions and exports for productions meet applicable ESI specifications
  • Provide helpdesk support in all litigation support software applications when needed
  • Provide training to users as necessary to enable them to utilize litigation support applications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 1 year of experience performing electronic discovery roles
  • 4 years of experience in administrative, professional, investigative, technical, or other work related to fields
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of computer systems, databases, litigation discovery process, and the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) workflow
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Customer-oriented

  • Knowledge of NetDocs, eScanit, Eclipse, LAW, IPRO Suite, Relativity, and CaseMap suite (preferred)
