About the position

The eDiscovery Project Manager at Goodwin Procter LLP plays a crucial role in overseeing the discovery process and eDiscovery for litigation case teams. This position involves collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, clients, and eDiscovery vendors to manage multiple matters simultaneously, ensuring efficient and cost-effective discovery strategies are implemented. The role requires a strong understanding of eDiscovery processes and technology, as well as the ability to manage budgets and vendor relationships effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with case teams to evaluate technology and eDiscovery needs at the outset of each matter.
  • Develop strategies to utilize technology for efficiencies and cost savings on each matter.
  • Create discovery plans for both ESI and paper files across all stages of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM).
  • Design and implement best practices for document and data management during each matter.
  • Obtain bids for discovery and litigation technology services from vendors.
  • Evaluate vendor bids and select the best vendor for each project.
  • Finalize statements of work for discovery projects and coordinate signatures with case teams.
  • Participate in matter intake/kickoff meetings with case teams and vendors.
  • Track and analyze incoming data from clients and external parties.
  • Assist with technical projects such as searching and batching documents.
  • Monitor eDiscovery/litigation support budgets and communicate status to case teams.
  • Track and report project status and management issues to case teams.
  • Manage statistical reporting on assigned matters.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between case teams and vendors.
  • Resolve issues related to vendors, databases, and technology for case teams.
  • Perform quality control checks on vendor work and deliverables.
  • Ensure data is removed from databases and maintained according to client protocols at the end of each matter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in eDiscovery.
  • Prior experience in an eDiscovery role within an AmLaw 100 law firm preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the discovery and electronic discovery process.
  • Familiarity with evolving standards created through case law and groups such as EDRM and The Sedona Conference.
  • Relativity Certification (RCA, RCU, and/or Analytics) preferred.
  • Knowledge of other eDiscovery applications such as Nuix, Brainspace, NexLP preferred.
  • Experience working with eDiscovery vendors on pricing and budget/project management.
  • Experience designing databases within eDiscovery platforms and workflows.
  • Experience with technical aspects of eDiscovery such as loading and promoting data, culling, de-duping, de-NISTing, threading, etc.
  • Knowledge of laws and rules governing discovery and eDiscovery.
  • Experience with large cases, including document collections, reviews, and productions.
  • Computer proficiency in Excel and other core programs used by the firm.
