About the position

The Senior or AVP E&S Excess Casualty Underwriter at Zurich is responsible for driving growth and profitability in the Excess Casualty segment by developing relationships with brokers and customers. This role involves leveraging underwriting expertise to assess risks, evaluate exposures, and price insurance products effectively. The position requires a market-facing approach, collaboration across various business units, and mentoring junior team members. The successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote work with market visibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers across all industries.
• Leverage casualty underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing.
• Collaborate across business units including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting.
• Use market-facing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with distribution partners.
• Serve as a customer industry advocate to improve the customer experience.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, and regulations.
• Coach, develop, and empower junior team members.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• For AVP level: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
• For AVP level: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of E&S Commercial insurance industry experience.
• Technical knowledge of Excess Casualty Underwriting with E&S.
• Established wholesale broker relationships.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
