About the position

The Design Project Coordinator position at the Texas Department of Transportation involves providing highly skilled technical expertise and overseeing multiple design and construction projects. The role varies from I to IV, with increasing levels of responsibility and independence. Coordinators will work closely with governmental agencies, consultants, and construction firms, ensuring that projects meet set objectives and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the review and oversight of plan packages submitted by consultants.
  • Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants, and contractors.
  • Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts, and typical sections.
  • Serves as a lead worker or project leader when necessary.
  • Receives project assignments and determines work requirements to complete project plans.
  • Coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
  • Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
  • Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
  • Assists with research and analysis of incoming correspondence, reports, and other written material.
  • Develops and prepares consultant work orders and agreements.
  • Evaluates and analyzes complex contractor claims.
  • Leads project or planning activities of professional and technical employees.
  • Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
  • Provides training for area of responsibility.
  • Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.
