About the position

The Design Project Coordinator role at the Texas Department of Transportation involves providing technical expertise and overseeing multiple design and construction projects. The position is available at four levels (I, II, III, IV), each with increasing responsibilities and complexity. Coordinators will work closely with governmental agencies, consultants, and construction firms, ensuring projects meet set objectives and standards. The role requires independent work, with higher levels involving leadership and training responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the review and oversight of plan packages submitted by consultants.
• Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants, and contractors.
• Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts, and typical sections.
• Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans, and coordinates scheduling.
• Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
• Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
• Assists with research and analysis of incoming correspondence, reports, and other written material.
• Develops and prepares consultant work orders and agreements.
• Evaluates and analyzes complex contractor claims.
• Leads project or planning activities of professional and technical employees.
• Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
• Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
• Provides training for area of responsibility.
• Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.
