The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Transportation Engineer I-IV within the Bridge Division. This role involves performing bridge and structural engineering work focused on bridge construction and maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and analyzing structural problems, determining their causes, and developing effective solutions for a variety of issues related to bridge construction, including defects, deterioration, and damage. The engineer will ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines, and will engage with governmental officials and private entities as part of their duties. The position is structured across four levels, each with increasing complexity and responsibility. At the Transportation Engineer I level, the engineer will answer technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection, maintain inspection data, assist in structural reviews, and perform engineering design work. As they progress to Transportation Engineer II, the engineer will take on more complex tasks, including overseeing bridge construction inspection activities and performing complex structural analyses. The Transportation Engineer III will handle highly complex structural analyses and resolve discrepancies between contractors and inspectors. Finally, the Transportation Engineer IV will develop and review engineering documents, recommend prioritization for bridge projects, and take on a leadership role in the engineering process. This position requires a strong understanding of construction specifications, materials, and bridge standards to support statewide bridge construction efforts. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right to determine the appropriate level of position based on the applicant's experience, education, and skill level, as well as business needs.
