About the position
The Transportation Engineer I-IV positions at the Texas Department of Transportation focus on bridge construction and maintenance. The positions range from entry-level to highly advanced roles, with increasing responsibilities and independence as one progresses from Engineer I to Engineer IV.
Responsibilities
- Perform bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge construction and maintenance.
- Diagnose and perform structural analyses of problems related to bridge construction.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
- Contact governmental officials and private entities as needed.
- Assist in performing structural reviews and inspections of bridges and related structures.
- Analyze bridge inspection data and provide summaries.
- Develop specifications for special bridge design details and projects.
- Make presentations and represent TxDOT in various capacities.
- Perform engineering design work including layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in bridge construction and maintenance engineering.
- Familiarity with construction specifications, materials, and bridge standards.
- Ability to perform structural analyses and develop solutions to engineering problems.
Nice-to-haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with bridge inspection and evaluation processes.
- Knowledge of TxDOT policies and procedures.
