About the position

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer at various levels (I, II, III, or IV) to perform bridge and structural engineering work in project development and design. The role involves ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, policies, and standards while working independently or with minimal supervision. The position requires interaction with governmental officials and private entities, and responsibilities increase with the level of the position, from designing moderately complex projects to highly advanced engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

• Design moderately complex bridge projects and perform specialized design.
• Review designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.
• Perform moderately complex structural analysis of bridge designs.
• Assist in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
• Assist in the development of specifications for special bridge design details and projects.
• Coordinate and/or monitor assigned projects/programs/plans.
• Represent the division at various meetings and make presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in bridge design and structural engineering work.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines related to bridge engineering.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain one.
• Experience with AutoCAD and other engineering design software.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
