About the position

The Technical Project Manager I or II position at the Texas Department of Transportation involves advanced project management responsibilities in engineering and construction. The role requires leadership in planning, executing, and overseeing architectural or engineering projects, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining project integrity. The position is pivotal in quality assurance and quality control, necessitating extensive interaction with agency management, governmental officials, and private entities.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives, and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems.
  • Review equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Direct, develop, and evaluate projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Inspect construction methods, workmanship, and maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Oversee construction project assignments and coordinate scheduling to accommodate ongoing projects.
  • Provide technical assistance in resolving construction problems related to contract administration.
  • Serve as a project leader or assistant project/team leader, coordinating planning and scheduling during project phases.
  • Train professional and technical staff.
  • Compile and distribute project information, status reports, and budget expenditures.
  • Create documentation procedures to manage changes in the original project plan.
  • Monitor and manage project quality to ensure deliverables meet contract specifications.

Requirements

  • Experience in project management, particularly in engineering or construction.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to construction projects.
  • Ability to perform quality assurance and quality control on technical projects.
  • Experience in consulting with various stakeholders including engineers and contractors.
