About the position

The Technical Project Manager I or II position at the Texas Department of Transportation involves overseeing and performing advanced engineering, architectural, and construction inspection work. The role requires leadership and oversight of all aspects of architectural or engineering construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and maintaining project integrity. The position is responsible for quality assurance and quality control of technical projects, requiring extensive interaction with agency management, governmental officials, and private entities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform advanced engineering, architectural, and construction inspection work.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of architectural or engineering construction projects.
  • Plan and control all elements of the project or oversee one aspect of multiple projects.
  • Review and develop project objectives while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Maintain project integrity through quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Consult with Project Engineers and contractors on work progress and construction problems.
  • Direct, develop, and evaluate projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Identify potential project impediments, risks, and issues, and design strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate scheduling to accommodate ongoing projects and determine work requirements.
  • Assist in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, and analysis.

Requirements

  • Experience in project management, particularly in engineering or construction fields.
  • Strong leadership and oversight skills in managing technical projects.
  • Ability to consult and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
