About the position

The Technical Project Manager I or II position at the Texas Department of Transportation involves overseeing and performing advanced engineering, architectural, and construction inspection work. The role requires leadership and oversight of all aspects of architectural or engineering construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and maintaining project integrity. The position entails managing multiple technical projects, conducting inspections, and providing technical assistance to resolve construction issues.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform advanced engineering, architectural, and construction inspection work.
  • Lead and coordinate oversight of multiple technical projects.
  • Conduct project reviews and inspections with facility inspectors and project managers.
  • Consult with Project Engineers and contractors on work progress and construction problems.
  • Direct, develop, and evaluate projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Implement and evaluate project budgets, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Identify potential project impediments and design strategies to mitigate them.
  • Monitor and manage project cost and quality to ensure completion within budget.
  • Ensure adherence to approved safety standards during project phasing and traffic control plans.
  • Train professional and technical staff.

Requirements

  • Experience in project management, particularly in engineering or construction.
  • Strong leadership and oversight skills.
  • Ability to conduct project reviews and inspections effectively.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and budget management.
  • Excellent communication skills for extensive contact with agency management and external entities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal and state compliance in construction projects.
  • Familiarity with FHA or FAA inspection processes.
  • Coaching and mentoring experience for junior project managers.
