About the position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Civil Engineer to support our Texas District. The candidate may sit in any of our Texas offices, including Dallas, Austin, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio. This position involves being part of projects with our Earth & Environment Team and contributing to a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. The role includes providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in both the public and private sectors. Responsibilities may include basic assistance with research, design, concept development, and projects involving earthworks or geosynthetic liner deployment. The engineer will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Under general supervision, the Early Career Civil Engineer will assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources such as physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction. The engineer will perform basic professional civil engineering work, including conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Routine engineering functions will be performed, providing entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality. The role also includes performing construction quality assurance (CQA) on projects involving earthworks or geosynthetic liner deployment, verifying site characteristics, and generating complete documentation using electronic systems and field logs. Compliance with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures is essential, along with responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adherence to WSP's Code of Conduct. The position requires completing training on assigned tasks and performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Nice-to-haves
