About the position

WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer for our Central New England Operations, based in our Chelmsford, MA office. This role is integral to our engineering design team, where you will engage in a variety of tasks including preparing feasibility studies and providing construction support under the guidance of senior staff. As part of WSP's New England Operations, which comprises over 250 multidisciplinary professionals, you will have the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a diverse range of clients throughout the United States. In this position, you will contribute to local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of renewable energy projects in both the public and private sectors. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the research, design, concept development, and construction of solar arrays, as well as generating accurate and concise documentation related to your assigned projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with a large and diverse team of design engineers to tackle complex engineering challenges. Your impact will be felt through various engineering tasks related to drainage, stormwater management, and site civil work to support solar development projects. You will prepare reports, coordinate support activities, and assist in the production of construction-level drawings using AutoCAD under the supervision of senior engineers. Additionally, you will independently complete smaller assignments with minimal supervision and work collaboratively with other engineers and scientists on projects. Adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies, you will exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and conduct. This position may also require performing construction oversight and conducting closeout activities, including final inspections and contract closeout. Overtime may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks related to drainage and stormwater, and site civil to support solar development projects.
  • Prepare reports and coordinate support activities, including plan production and drafting report text or comment responses.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Prepare construction level drawings in AutoCAD under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Independently complete specific smaller assignments with minimal supervision and coordinate with other staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and scientists on projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Perform construction oversight.
  • Conduct construction closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, record drawings, and contract closeout.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 0-1 years of engineering/consulting experience with a focus on civil site design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills and organizational abilities
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
  • Must pass physical, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HydroCAD)
