About the position

The Early Career CMT Engineer position at WSP involves assisting the department manager in overseeing laboratory activities, field staff, and construction materials testing projects. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety protocols while providing support in technical training, project management, and coordination of laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of technical training programs, Lab Accreditation, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and materials for the Materials Practice Team.
  • Coordinate with hubs and spokes regarding technical materials related issues.
  • Participate in ATO and construction materials testing practice coordination meetings and provide reporting and other inputs.
  • Interact with field technicians and address technical and logistical needs.
  • Provide input for Construction Materials Testing for management of initiatives, strategy, training, technology, business development and innovation.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting project plans and specifications.
  • Assist in management of overall quality performance within Materials Practice Team for compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage CMT projects, including project administrative duties, financial performance of projects, and supervision of field staff on assigned projects.
  • Abide by WSP's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that testing services are accomplished consistent with WSP's quality protocol and in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Play a key role in upholding the company's Quality program and Construction Materials Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assist the Department Manager to ensure that laboratory personnel are properly trained, supervised and equipped with necessary tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities to ensure timely execution of work according to client and project requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to the requirements of the company Quality program and the Construction Materials Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assist with overseeing calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate inter-departmental and inter-office activities of laboratory personnel with joint company efforts where necessary.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.
  • Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Supervise efficient utilization of facilities and equipment assigned to the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • EIT certificate and actively pursuing licensure
  • 0-1 year of progressively responsible technical experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and results-driven
  • Proven problem-solving skills in demanding situations
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams (Channels, SharePoint)
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history
