About the position

As an Early-Career Environmental Data Analyst/Data Manager at Geosyntec, you will play a crucial role in the information management practice, collaborating with consulting scientists and engineers to address clients' data management needs. This position involves training in database architecture, EQuIS, GIS work product preparation, and laboratory analytical data management. You will support ongoing operations by managing databases, visualizing data, building interactive dashboards, and assisting in the design and implementation of new products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Interacting with multidisciplinary internal teams and external clients to provide integrated data management and visualization solutions for environmental engineering and geoscience projects.
  • Designing, developing, and managing project-specific relational database applications using desktop and enterprise database software.
  • Compiling, processing, verifying, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting large and diverse datasets.
  • Automating processes with Python and other scripting languages and platforms (VBA, Microsoft PowerAutomate, etc.).
  • Using EQuIS platform and other Microsoft SQL Server based database to manage project data, including extraction, transformation, and loading (ETLs) of data.
  • Configuring and implementing EQuIS tools such as customizing EQuIS reports, customizing and deploying EQuIS data loaders, building web dashboards with EQuIS Enterprise.
  • Using desktop and enterprise GIS software, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and open-source alternatives, to collect, store, analyze, and visualize spatial data.
  • Conducting fieldwork such as soil, surface water and groundwater sampling and remediation treatment system operation and maintenance.
  • Using mobile data collection platforms, such as EQuIS Collect, Survey123, Collector for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Field Maps, and GPS equipment for data collection while performing fieldwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering, Geosciences, GIS or Geography (required).
  • Programming skills with one of the programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, .NET, Java/JavaScript, and VBA (required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (required).
  • Field work and overnight travel (required).
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing (required).
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in the same field (preferred).
  • Related work experience in a similar role (preferred).
  • Experience in environmental field sampling, chemistry, data analysis and/or visualization (preferred).
  • Experience with the off-the-shelf environmental data management systems (EQuIS) (preferred).
  • Experience with database technology such as Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Data Management Studio (preferred).
  • Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes (preferred).
  • Experience with enterprise database platforms and/or GIS software (ArcGIS) (preferred).
  • Knowledge of data dashboard and BI tool development (preferred).
  • Academic training in environmentally-related disciplines, such as geology, civil/environmental engineering, water/natural resources, or environmental studies (preferred).
