WSP is currently seeking a Full-Time Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Herndon, VA office. This position is an exciting opportunity to be involved in projects with our Mission Critical Team, contributing to a growing organization that is dedicated to meeting our clients' objectives and solving their challenges. As an Early Career Electrical Engineer, you will work under general supervision and assist with various engineering tasks related to substation components and equipment specifications. Your role will include collecting, compiling, and analyzing data for procurement package development and pricing, as well as participating in design and review processes in accordance with IEEE/NESC Standards and NERC regulations. In this position, you will perform basic professional electrical engineering work, which includes designing single line and three line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangements, substation layouts, and bus arrangements. You will also be responsible for grounding grid design and lightning protection, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. Your routine engineering functions will involve providing entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit and trenching design strategies, all aimed at ensuring the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure. Additionally, you will assist in verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures. Under close supervision, you will develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution. You will also be responsible for generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs. Compliance with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures is essential, as is the exercise of responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. You will also be expected to complete training on assigned tasks and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
