About The Position

WSP is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Early Career Geochemist to join its Earth & Environment Team in Lakewood, CO. This role involves supporting hydrogeochemistry-related projects, particularly in the mining industry, while also engaging in environmental hydrogeochemistry for various sectors. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting investigations, managing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet client objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geochemistry, or related field.
  • 0 to 1 years of experience working as a Geochemist or in an adjacent professional discipline.
  • Strong coursework or experience in aqueous chemistry and/or low-temperature geochemistry.
  • Knowledge of geology, geochemistry, hydrochemistry, mineralogy, hydrology, and/or chemical hydrogeology with a strong quantitative background.
  • Experience with data manipulation and compilation, including experience with data management and statistical tools (e.g., Excel, EQuIS, Python, R).
  • Experience with water quality and geochemical modeling using common codes (i.e., PHREEQC, Geochemist's Workbench, MIN3P, etc.).
  • Experience producing written reports and presentations to convey technical results to a range of audiences.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with supervision, as well as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of organic contaminants and microbially-mediated degradation processes
  • Knowledge of coal combustion residue (CCR) chemistry and regulatory context
  • Understanding of laboratory analytical methods
  • MSHA 24hr level qualified or recertification eligible
  • HAZWOPER 40hr Operations level qualified or recertification eligible

Responsibilities

  • Providing support for hydrogeochemical projects, including permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation.
  • Conducting hydrogeochemical investigation and characterization studies associated with groundwater, surface water, wastes, and geological materials.
  • Validating, managing, and analyzing hydrogeochemical data.
  • Conducting hydrogeochemical modeling.
  • Preparing reports and presentations and participating in client meetings.
  • Demonstrating a 'Safety-First' focus.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
