About the position

The Early Career Propulsion Test Engineer I at Blue Origin is responsible for supporting rocket engine test operations to meet the requirements of various spaceflight systems. This role involves assisting with test planning, execution, risk management, hardware integration, post-test inspections, data review, and performance analysis, all while ensuring safety and repeatability in spaceflight operations. The position is crucial for contributing to the company's mission of enabling human spaceflight and lowering the cost of access to space.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with test planning and execution for rocket engine tests.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with test operations.
  • Integrate hardware for test campaigns and conduct post-test inspections.
  • Review data and analyze engine performance after tests.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety and collaboration within the team.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or physics desired).
  • Experience in a testing environment.
  • Experience in executing test procedures.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluids and thermodynamics.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering with experimental lab experience.
  • Propulsion test experience.
  • Experience designing, fabricating, or operating fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers and thermocouples.
  • Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components.
  • Hands-on experience with integrating test articles and sub-assemblies for test.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or other data acquisition software.
  • Familiarity with CAD applications (ProE or Creo preferred).
