About the position

The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) is seeking highly qualified instructors for early childhood programs at its primary Finn Center site in Mountain View. This part-time position focuses on teaching creative art classes to children aged two to five years in a newly equipped art classroom. The role involves planning and leading engaging art classes that foster an exploratory learning environment for small groups of 8-10 children, either in collaboration with adult caregivers in family classes or as independent learners. Instructors will work closely with program staff to develop curriculum and contribute to the growth of early childhood arts programs. Responsibilities also include preparing materials, setting up the classroom for lessons, and cleaning up after activities. Effective communication with students, parents, and program staff is essential, as is a commitment to CSMA's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead early childhood creative art classes for children aged two through five years.
  • Facilitate an exploratory learning environment for groups of 8-10 children.
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop curriculum for early childhood arts programs.
  • Prepare materials and set up the classroom for lessons.
  • Clean up after activities and maintain a tidy classroom environment.
  • Communicate positively and consistently with students, parents, and staff.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience teaching young children.
  • Expertise in early childhood education with proven experience working with preschool-aged children.
  • Experience leading exploratory-based projects for children.
  • Experience with Reggio Emilia teaching methods is helpful but not required.
  • Experience with a parent co-op and ECE units is helpful but not required.
  • Experience leading parent/child classes is preferred but not required.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and efficient in a team environment.
  • Well-developed classroom management and communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Fine Arts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Reggio Emilia teaching methods.
