About the position

The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher position at Port Washington Children's Center involves supporting the cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical development of children in a nurturing environment. The role requires compliance with licensing regulations and active participation in lesson planning and implementation under the guidance of Head Teachers. The center is committed to providing high-quality education and care for working families, and the Assistant Teacher will play a crucial role in maintaining program quality and ensuring the well-being of children.

Responsibilities

  • Support children's cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical development.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children through engaged supervision during all activities.
  • Comply with OCFS licensing regulations and health and safety practices.
  • Assist in observation, assessments, and implementation of lesson plans under the guidance of the Head Teacher.
  • Collaborate with Head Teachers, Assistant Directors, and the Executive Director for supervision, goal setting, and coaching.
  • Participate in staff development, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Communicate thoughtfully and collaboratively with parents, alongside the Head Teacher.
  • Maintain program quality and developmentally appropriate activities in the Head Teacher's absence.
  • Ensure a well-organized, clean, and safe environment, reporting any safety issues to the Assistant Director.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as attendance and CACFP reporting.
  • Exhibit flexibility and teamwork to support other classrooms as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Capability to stand and sit on the floor for extended periods.
  • Participation in outdoor supervision, including pool and water play, hikes, and tolerance for varying outdoor weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of experience in a childcare or preschool environment.
  • Associate degree and/or CDA in Early Childhood Education.
  • Knowledge of child development and emergent curricula planning.
  • Strong commitment to education and continuous personal development.
  • Experience in a collaborative team environment.
  • Confidence in leading and supporting a classroom.
  • Passion for education and child development with a patient and reflective demeanor.
  • Experience in a high-quality, emergent school.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Additional continuing education from progressive institutions.
