About the position

The Early Childhood Enrichment Specialist at Flushing YMCA is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool students, focusing on their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs. This role emphasizes building relationships with children and their caregivers while providing a safe and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises participants and all program activities.
• Follows all procedures and standards established by the law or the Y, making ADA accommodations where appropriate.
• Maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
• Nurtures participants through purposeful programming and creates age-appropriate lesson plans focused on learning goals.
• Creates a positive rapport and builds relationships with participants and their primary caregivers.
• Provides opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that caregivers can support or participate in.
• Engages in ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and training.
• Hosts classes that engage young learners in fun, hands-on educational activities.
• Creates weekly lesson plans to be submitted to the Early Childhood Director.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children from birth to 4 years old is required.
• Previous experience working with small groups or in a customer service field is a plus.
• Current CPR/First Aid certifications preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with customer service in a related field.
• Willingness to take all training required by the YMCA.
