About the position

The Early Childhood Learning and Development Program Specialist is responsible for developing and coordinating professional development programming for early childhood educators. This role emphasizes creating a strong early care workforce through education and support activities, ensuring high-quality programming that leads to positive outcomes for children. The specialist will engage in one-on-one coaching, provide instruction, and organize large events to enhance workforce development in the early childhood sector.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop workshop/program content and materials.
  • Update current workshop content based on research and developmentally appropriate theory and practice.
  • Coordinate and schedule training workshops and conferences.
  • Conduct trainings and provide professional development opportunities tailored to early care and education providers' needs.
  • Assist in formulating and developing professional development goals and objectives for long-range planning.
  • Coordinate logistics for all trainings/workshops/conferences including registration.
  • Track and evaluate data to predict/plan future professional development opportunities.
  • Prepare statistical and program reports.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with in-house and contracted trainers.
  • Observe, mentor, and coach trainers to improve practice and effectiveness.
  • Develop newsletters and training calendars.
  • Manage training functions in registration software (ActiveNet).
  • Coordinate events and outreach activities to the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of child development and Maryland State Department of Education training requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field.
  • Experience providing training to adults.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Proficiency in virtual platforms for human services delivery.
