About the position
The Early Childhood Paraprofessional position at Brookline Public Schools involves supporting kindergarten students, including those with special needs, in their daily learning activities. Responsibilities
- Plan and assist during daily learning activities.
- Support regular and special education students in accessing classroom activities.
- Manage and instruct small and large groups of students.
- Support the classroom teacher throughout the school day.
- Prepare and coordinate materials for learning activities as requested by the teacher.
- Assist students in following classroom routines and engaging during instruction.
- Support young children's social problem-solving skills and behavior regulation.
- Greet students and facilitate smooth transitions between activities.
- Scaffold learning during instruction under teacher supervision.
- Follow through on IEP goals as directed by the teacher.
- Assist students with bathroom procedures and maintain a safe environment on the playground.
- Review classroom environment at the end of the day to prepare for the next day.
- Maintain classroom displays and project work as requested by the teacher.
- Implement student educational programs and behavior management guidelines competently.
- Provide a positive and supportive learning experience for students.
- Participate in data collection and analysis related to student progress.
Requirements
- Relevant work experience (1 year) with young children preferred.
- Bachelor's degree.
Nice-to-haves
- Classroom experience preferred.
- Ability to modify directions and provide prompts to students as needed.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
